Our adult reconstructive service is an important subspecialty component of the Adult Reconstructive Center. Our orthopaedic specialists concentrate on the care of patients with joint diseases. Our services include evaluation, consultation, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic arthritis and avascular necrosis. In most cases we treat the joints and surrounding bones commonly damaged by arthritis. This develops from “wear and tear” on the body from years of injuries. Osteoarthritis can develop and affect any joint. Rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and less common disorders can cause inflammatory arthritis. Inflammatory arthritis affects both the young and old.
Fractures and trauma also affect the bones away from the joints. Some patients have experienced a crooked bone after a fracture. Other post-fracture problems can stem from the bone never healing or a “non-union.”
The orthopaedic surgeons at OrthoWest use their experience, skill, and specialty training to determine which joints or bones can be repaired or reconstructed, and which need to be replaced with mechanical devices.
